The importance of World Wildlife Day

The World Wildlife Day, celebrated every year on 3 March, is a crucial time to highlight the importance of wildlife and the natural ecosystems for the balance of our planet. World Wildlife Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the vital role that biodiversity plays in keeping the environment we live in healthy. The aim of this anniversary is to promote awareness of the urgency of conserving and using natural resources sustainably, emphasising the importance of taking measures to protect the rich variety of life on Earth. The celebration of this day invites us to reflect on our actions and how they affect biodiversity, emphasising the need for a collective commitment to ensure a sustainable future for the next generations.

    World Nature Day: the story

The World Wildlife Day was established on 20 December 2013, at the General Assembly of the United Nations, with the aim of commemorating the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) on 3 March 1973. This global event aims to highlight the fight against the illegal trade in animals and plants, a phenomenon that threatens the survival of many species and the global biodiversity. From year to year, the day focuses on specific themes that reflect emerging challenges in wildlife conservation, from habitat loss to climate change, inspiring the international community and stakeholders to take concrete action.

World Wildlife Day 2024: nature and innovation

The theme of World Wildlife Day 2024 is "Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation". Indeed, this year's Wildlife Day highlights how technology and innovation can drive nature conservation, sustainable and legal trade in wildlife, and the coexistence of wildlife and humans. Technological innovation has made research, communication and many other aspects of wildlife conservation easier, more efficient and accurate. However, unequal access to these new tools, environmental pollution and unsustainable applications of some technologies are critical issues to be addressed, with a view to achieving universal digital inclusion by 2030.

3Bee's commitment to World Nature Day

3Bee is the nature tech leader in the development of technologies for the protection of biodiversity. Its revolutionary approach is based on the use of innovative technologies capable of listening to pollinators: the sensors and algorithms developed make it possible to collect quantifiable data on their health status and on the habitat that hosts them, making them accessible to all. This transparency not only improves understanding and awareness of the status of pollinators, but also facilitates the development of targeted solutions and the implementation of effective conservation actions. This is the background to the Oases of Biodiversity: urban and agroforestry habitats created in areas of low biodiversity, with the aim of regenerating it, monitored along the lines of the XNatura Protocol. On World Nature Day, we highlight the crucial role of technology in monitoring biodiversity and taking targeted regeneration actions.

World Wildlife Day: how to monitor biodiversity

3Bee has developed XNatura, the biodiversity monitoring protocol based on bioacoustics and remote sensing, whose application is verified by Bureau Veritas Italia, a leader in certification services. XNatura is part of a site-specific approach identified by 3Bee, whose phases are:
Assessment - detailed analysis of the habitat and the biodiversity of the site.
Regeneration - identification of targeted actions for the regeneration.
Communication - sharing of results via the dedicated web page and via the label XNatura certifying the use of the protocol.
Monitoring and reporting - from the data returned by the technology, preparation of the biodiversity report ESG in compliance with international standards.
XNatura enables monitoring and quantifying, also thanks to artificial intelligence, the impact of regeneration projects developed in compliance with the new European regulatory framework. Want to learn more?
