Innovating the future: the Finmatica Group story

The impact is the set of effects that human activities produce on the environment and this phenomenon has now reached levels that are unprecedented in history. Pollution, the constant reduction of forests and soil consumption generate meteorological phenomena of extraordinary violence that also affect territories (including ours) in which these events were almost unknown. It is clear that strategic choices, as well as those of each individual, become crucial to stem this trend. "The Finmatica Group is not among those companies that generate a large environmental impact, as our only product is 'immaterial', a so-called 'product of ingenuity'. Our consumption is therefore limited to the energy sources needed to use our offices and equipment," says Domenico Gualtieri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Finmatica.

The most relevant initiative for reducing environmental impact has taken the form of choosing an operating headquarters close to the city centre and easily accessible by public transport and the railway line; this is confirmed by the fact that many of our employees reach the workplace without using private vehicles. The Finmatica Group has also adopted a teleworking policy that envisages employees being on site for less than 50% of working hours; reduced electricity consumption by upgrading all lighting on company premises to LED technology; and virtualised servers by adopting the cloud. In addition, we implemented a comprehensive waste separation plan that allowed us to even eliminate waste bins from individual offices, as well as installing a micro-filtered water dispenser to significantly reduce the consumption of plastic bottles.

The "Oasis of Biodiversity" project, aimed at the protection and regeneration of natural habitats and realised in collaboration with 3Bee, has been chosen by the Finmatica Group to counter hydrogeological instability and strengthen ties with the territory in which our company has been operating for 54 years: the Emilia Romagna. Domenico Gualtieri, Chairman of the Board of Directors, affirms: "this is a new experience for us with respect to the specific theme of biodiversity, bearing in mind that Finmatica has always paid attention to those initiatives that have a positive impact on the community (means of transport for the disabled, donations to non-profit organisations, support for cultural associations, etc.)."

The Finmatica Group's Oasis of Biodiversity consists of a nectar forest of 100 trees, which contribute to feeding 150,000 pollinators each year thanks to the production of about 80 kg of nectar, as well as absorbing about 3 tonnes of CO2. "Thanks to the collaboration with 3Bee and the creation of our Oasis of Biodiversity, we have chosen to actively engage in the protection of the pollinator insects, precious guardians of biodiversity and responsible for around 75% of the world's crops," continues Finmatica's Chairman of the Board, Domenico Gualtieri. According to the ISPRA in fact, a significant percentage of pollinating insects - both domestic and wild - are at risk of extinction, a situation exacerbated by global warming. This is why it is crucial to take concrete action to save, regenerate and monitor the state of biodiversity and the world of pollinators.

After the positive experience with 3Bee, Finmatica Group would like to extend its commitment and participate in similar initiatives in the near future. In addition, the Oasis of Biodiversity realised is continuously growing, thanks to a number of supporters who are helping to increase its impact. The project with 3Bee is part of a broader path of sustainability, both environmental and social: the Finmatica Group is in contact with institutional bodies that are looking for partners to implement educational projects, some of which will also involve schools. Moreover, they are committed to raising the awareness of their employees regarding the adoption of more responsible behaviour towards the environment and active participation in initiatives aimed at environmental protection.
