Sanremo 2023: sustainability still in the shade

The third evening of the Sanremo Festival is approaching, but to our dismay the sustainability bonus at FantaSanremo has not yet been triggered. Our wish is that an important topic such as sustainability will gain more prominence during the final days of the competition.

Biodiversity Bonus not yet triggered at FantaSanremo

The Sanremo Festival, and along with it the FantaSanremo, is almost halfway through its run, and yet, none of the competing singers have unlocked the Sustainability Bonus by taking action in favour of biodiversity and environmental sustainability. By becoming Partner Sustainability of the FantaSaremo our wish was precisely to promote these issues, to which the public is not indifferent, as we could see with Blanco's performance. The words of Niccolò Calandri, CEO of 3Bee, on the incident: "The indignation - even if excessive and not cast in the real context of the festival show - at Blanco's performance demonstrated the attention paid to the delicate setting of flowers, a precious symbol of the work of bees and pollinators. We therefore hope for a positive and sustainable display from the artists, not only to keep fantasy players happy as they wait for the 10 bonus points, but also to veil the importance of biodiversity. .

The FantaSanremo theme song and Greenwashing

Eugenio in Via di Gioia, a band formed in 2012 and categorised as 'Indie' style, is known for being openly environmentalist and activist. One of the most prominent examples is the single 'Earth', an ode to our planet as a wonderful and irreplaceable place. Once again we were pleasantly surprised by the theme song they created for FantaSanremo: "Tam-Tam", in which they once again brought out their principles and philosophy. They did this through an ironic verse, but one with a strong environmental message: 'There's turmoil in the city, All Italy does tam-tam, There's Grignani among the singers, There's greenwashing among the swimmers'. The term Greenwashing has now entered common parlance and identifies a precise communication model: "Communication or marketing strategy pursued by companies, institutions, entities that present their activities as environmentally sustainable, trying to conceal their negative environmental impact."

3Bee and The Great Meltdown: the Caribbean of Tuscany

At 3Bee, a climate-tech company, we immediately found a connection between Eugenio in Via di Gioia's verse and our own experience over the past years of concrete actions and environmental education, for the protection and regeneration of ecosystems. In the summer of 2020 we produced "The Great Meltdown: the 7 most chilling places in Italy" a docuseries of short episodes in which the protagonists are precisely the places where nature has been most altered by the work of man. One of the stops was the white beach of Rosignano (LU). The colour of the water and the beach is due to the release of calcium carbonate into the sea by a neighbouring company. Calcium carbonate is documented to be inert and therefore not dangerous. However, the substance could have serious repercussions on the algae Poseidonia, which absorbs CO2 thanks to sunlight by practising photosynthesis.

    3Bee for corporate sustainability

Environmental changes and human activities are having an obvious impact on the health of our planet, including species living in terrestrial and marine ecosystems. In many sectors, the use of unsustainable practices that go against the protection of biodiversity is becoming widespread. However, many companies are beginning to understand the importance of sustainability and to adopt concrete and transparent practices. At 3Bee, we are dedicated to supporting companies in their transition to a more sustainable future, through initiatives such as the use of technological hives for honey bees and the creation of habitats for lone bees. Furthermore, we are convinced that the planting of nectariferous forests is an important way to ensure the health of bees. Finally, conveying the importance of these activities to our employees is crucial, which is why we created Team Building Academy, an awareness-raising and unforgettable experience.
