Biodiverse podcast: 3Bee's first podcast show

"Podcast Biodiverso" is the first podcast show from the naturetech 3Bee, which stands out in the climate podcast scene for its ability to weave irony, levity and information into a unique and accessible format for all. The first season is composed of 6 episodes, available on Spotify and Youtube, and tackles key current issues, such as the climate crisis and biodiversity, in a sparkling and original way. Each episode presents an exclusive perspective on the big questions of sustainability: from climate change to sex, from feelings to the extinction of mosquitoes, and even nuclear energy. Not the usual green podcast, but a tool for dissemination, discussion and learning, to tell the story of biodiversity in a new way, also thanks to the contribution of renowned guests.

Action or climate distraction: the third episode

In the third episode of "Podcast Biodiverso", entitled "Climate action or distraction? ", is guest Marta Maroglio, climate activist and board member of Fridays For Future Italia, to explore the topic of climate activism and the motivations behind the global climate protests. We all know the famous climate strike by Greta Thunberg that inspired millions of young people around the world. Not to mention the assaults on works of art, between paint and flour. But what are the motivations behind climate activist protests? What does it mean to be a climate activist today? Is climate activism good or bad for the environment? What do the Gen Z kids protesting for the climate and the workers laid off from factories because of the ecological transition have in common? These are just some of the questions 3Bee answers in the third episode of "Biodiverse Podcast".

From Greta Thunberg to climate protests around the world

"We children often do not do what you tell us to do. We do what you do. And if you adults don't care about my future, then I shouldn't either. My name is Greta and I am in the ninth grade. I will strike for the climate until election day. This is what Greta Thunberg wrote on a paper she took with her to protest in front of the Swedish Parliament on 20 August 2018. Since that day, there have been as many as 11 global climate strikes in some 7500 cities around the world and over 14 million protesters taken to the streets. Not only that: in recent years, searches on Google for 'climate change' have increased by 40%. But are climate actions for or against productive in the fight against climate change? In the third episode of the 3Bee podcast, Marta Maroglio argues that there is a need for different ways of doing activism, from the softest to the boldest, but with one big macro goal: acting against the climate crisis.

The guest of the third episode: Marta Maroglio

Marta Maroglio is a climate and social justice activist. Since 2019, she has been part of the Fridays For Future movement, first in local groups in Pinerolo and then in Turin. Today, he is a board member of FFF Italia. She actively participated in the November 2023 campaign, in which activists stood on the roof of the Oval in Turin unfurling the banner 'War on Earth, Business on the Moon' during the Aerospace and Defence Meeting. In addition, Marta supported the occupation of the GKN plant to support the 400 workers laid off under the pretext of the ecological transition. She believes in activism because she wants to give a voice to those who do not have one. In the future, she might be given the title of 'Building Climber' on big occasions: the climate protests.

Biodiverse curiosity: eco-anxiety and climate change

The topic of eco-anxiety is linked, in some respects, to that of climate activism. In the third episode of the podcast, we briefly discuss this topic, which is the subject of various studies and research. According to a survey by The Lancet, carried out on a sample of about ten thousand young people aged 16 to 25, 59% described themselves as 'very or extremely concerned' about climate change and 84% at least 'moderately concerned'. Eco-anxiety is defined as "a chronic fear of environmental catastrophe". It is not classified as a disorder in diagnostic manuals, but is a problem for hundreds of thousands of people, particularly the younger generation and the scientific community. The climate change can also have repercussions within communities, with consequences that can sometimes be traced back to an increase in conflict phenomena, as also emerged in the first episode of the Biodiverse Podcast, "Sex, climate and rock 'n roll".
