XNatura®: satellites and sensors, all of 3Bee's technology

XNatura® is the registered trademark through which 3Bee brings its technology for nature to the world: over 200 satellite layers, more than 10,000 sensors in the field, and a unique platform that transforms data into decisions endorsed by our experts.

    What is XNatura®?

XNatura® is the intelligence platform for nature and climate developed by 3Bee, and is a trademark registered in the European Union. For each site, whether a facility, a field, a park, or a building, it builds a digital twin: the perimeter, land cover within and around the site, and all environmental indicators that satellites, sensors, climate scenarios, and field surveys can link to that place. More than 200 satellite layers, over 10,000 IoT sensors, IPCC climate scenarios, and artificial intelligence work on the same site model, so a risk assessment, an ecological baseline, and a report never contradict each other on the same hectare. Every result is reviewed and signed off by an expert on our team.

From satellite: nature seen from above

The first layer is space. XNatura® satellite maps measure for each site land cover, biodiversity integrity (MSA), habitat quality and connectivity, water stress, surface heat, soil sealing and carbon. Sentinel-2 images have a resolution of 10 to 20 meters and a new pass every 5 days; for vegetation along roads, networks and facilities we also use very high-resolution images and LiDAR. Each indicator is calculated within the site and in a control area around it, so the comparison immediately shows whether a place is richer or poorer than the surrounding territory. And every value remains traceable to its source.

    Spectrum: listening to pollinators

The satellite sees habitats, but not insects. That's why we developed Spectrum, the sensor that listens to the wingbeat of pollinators within a 3-meter radius and classifies them into 19 groups based on frequency. It runs on solar power and can withstand up to 3 months without sun, with no need for a technician on site. Today there are about 1,000 Spectrum units installed, which have monitored over 7 million pollinators, from Milan's parks to building rooftops in North America. Data arrives on the platform every day, is validated, and becomes indicators comparable across sites, seasons, and years. In the video, Spectrum in 3D, reconstructed from its CAD design.

    Birdy, Hive-Tech and camera traps

A family of sensors designed for the field works around Spectrum. Birdy listens to birdsong between 20 Hz and 20 kHz, day and night, and recognizes more than 200 species. Hive-Tech, the technology with which 3Bee was created, weighs beehives to an accuracy of 10 grams and measures their temperature and humidity: more than 5,300 are installed and they monitor over 1.5 billion bees each year. The 4K camera traps survey wildlife without disturbing it, and Sintropy Air measures particulate matter and gases. Kiro, which listens to the ultrasounds of bats, is undergoing field testing. In the video, the Hive-Tech scale in 3D, piece by piece.

A registered trademark, a proprietary technology

XNatura® is a registered trademark in the European Union. The platform, satellite models, recognition algorithms, and the Spectrum, Birdy, and Hive-Tech sensors are designed and developed by 3Bee. It is the same technology used by companies, parks, municipalities, and infrastructure in Europe, and that partners such as Alvéole bring to North American real estate, all the way to the Empire State Building. When you see an XNatura® data point, behind it there is a digital twin built by us and an expert who signs off on it.
