Biodiverse podcast: 3Bee's first podcast show

On the occasion of Valentine's Day, 3Bee, the naturetech leader in the development of technologies for the protection of biodiversity, launches its first podcast show: "Biodiverse Podcast", which stands out in the panorama of climate podcasts for its ability to weave irony, lightness and information into a unique format that is accessible to all. The first season is composed of 6 episodes, available on Spotify and Youtube, and tackles key current issues, such as the climate crisis and biodiversity, in a sparkling and original way. Each episode presents an exclusive perspective on the big questions of sustainability: from climate change to sex, from feelings to mosquito extinction, and even nuclear energy. Not the usual green podcast, but a tool for dissemination, discussion and learning, to tell the story of biodiversity in a new way, also thanks to the contribution of renowned guests.

Sex, climate and rock'n'roll: the first episode

In the first episode of "Biodiverse Podcast", titled "Sex, climate and rock'n'roll", is guest Stefano Caserini, Environmental Engineer and Professor of Climate Change Mitigation at the Politecnico di Milano and the University of Parma, to discuss the impact of the climate-change on human relationships and feelings. This is a new perspective, because there are many studies on the effects of climate change in economic, environmental and social terms, but little is said about the effects on the relational sphere, which involves us in our daily lives. And so: is sex affected by climate change? Does the increase in CO2 affect our feelings? These are just some of the questions 3Bee answers in the first episode of "Biodiverse Podcast".

    Too hot for sex?

The climate change greatly affects interpersonal and sexual relationships, highlighting how extreme heat, e.g. 39°C in rooms without adequate insulation or cooling, makes sex less attractive and more complex, as Prof. Stefano Caserini points out in the first episode of the 3Bee podcast. This challenge relates directly to human well-being, drawing attention to the importance of addressing such impacts in our lives. Integrating contraception education with environmental awareness and sustainability in educational programmes, especially in developing countries, offers an avenue to promote responsible family planning practices. This approach not only improves the quality of life and well-being of intimate relationships, but also significantly strengthens the rights of women and mothers, giving them more control over reproduction.

The guest of the first episode: Stefano Caserini

Stefano Caserini realised in 1995 that the climate would be his bread and butter in the years to come. Besides being a professor, he wrote several books, including Sex and the climate. What no one has yet explained to you about climate change', in which he analyses the consequences of climate change on human physiology. We can therefore call him 'the Carry Bradshow of scientists' because of his study focus on climate and human relationships (the title of his book is no coincidence!). Professor Caserini is also the founder and coordinator of the blog Climalteranti.it and co-editor of the scientific journal "Environmental Engineering". Since June 2022 he is Councillor for Environment, Mobility, Climate Action and Innovation of the Municipality of Lodi.

Biodiverse curiosity: gender, climate and cognitive abilities

The increasing temperature complicates the sexual act, but not only that, it also makes everyday interpersonal relations more complex. In fact, several studies have shown that excessive heat makes us more aggressive, irritable, and contributes to increased anxiety and stress. Extreme heat, as well as extreme cold, affects our cognitive abilities. The ability to control our emotions decreases in favour of impulsivity, which undermines the balance in couples, but also relationships between colleagues or friends. An interesting study conducted on a group of students in Boston during a heat wave in 2016, showed that the group who worked in a classroom without air conditioning scored 13% worse on cognitive tests than peers who were in the cooler weather. Similarly, reaction time was 13% slower.
