Barena honey: characteristics of a rare lagoon honey

At 3Bee, honey is a symbol of the hard work of pollination done by bees and the realisation of their contribution to the ecosystem. Our projects support biodiversity and through our growers ensure a healthy environment for pollinators.

    3Bee's approach to biodiversity protection

3Bee is the Nature Tech company that develops technologies for the protection of biodiversity. 3Bee Hive-Tech is 3Bee's first system for analysing the health and 'starvation' status of honeybees, environmental pests par excellence. Over time, we have developed other technologies to study and monitor all the pollinating insects and created more than 200 Oases of Biodiversity with thousands of nectariferous plants to provide them with nourishment. Thus, we want to create a virtuous circle: our beekeepers are transformed by necessity into Oasis growers and promoters of environmental biodiversity. We do not encourage massive production and intensive breeding, which have a negative impact on biodiversity and pollinators. We do, however, recognise the value of honey as a valuable symbol of the biodiversity of an environment and a tool for disseminating the commitment and protection of an area, to be consumed sparingly and with respect for the life cycle of these insects.

Barena honey: what is it and where does it come from?

The Barene are typical soils that can be found in lagoon environments, periodically submerged by water. We tend to find vegetation on these soils that is resistant to the high salinity of the soil, among which we find some nectariferous species, in particular Limonium serotinum, called common limonium. This plant flowers from June to September and is very showy: purple flowers gathered in a sort of panicle, the nectar of which is collected by bees to produce the Barena honey, a peculiar and rare.

Barena honey: characteristics and special features

Barena honey is one of the most distinctive honeys produced in Italy and is exclusively produced within the Venetian lagoon. Limonium honey, known as Barena honey, is yellowish and opaque in colour, with a medium consistency. The taste is sweet with balsamic accents, much more so than the honey, and sometimes a hint of saltiness can be detected. Caramel and vegetal notes prevail on the nose. A very special honey as well as rare and fine.

Barena honey: properties, benefits and contraindications

The Barena honey is well known for its energetic properties, as well as being rich in mineral salts. Due to its balsamic characteristics, it is very suitable for all those ailments of the respiratory tract, such as coughs or seasonal ailments. It is considered a rare honey, as it is difficult to produce, especially due to the difficulty of laying hives in these lagoon locations and the reduction and degradation of the salt marshes caused by wave motion. Discover the Barena honey! This honey has no particular contraindications, but always
