    DAS SCIENCE-BASED PILOTPROJEKT

Prominent companies are actively participating in a pilot project of the Science-Based Target Network (a global coalition of environmental NGOs and mission-oriented organisations). While the project's preliminary targets focus primarily on freshwater bodies and forests, as well as land and agriculture (FLAG), additional targets are expected in the future that include important resources such as our oceans. This objective will allow organisations to thoroughly assess, quantify and disclose the environmental impact of their operations while taking proactive steps to mitigate.

    THE PARTICIPATING COMPANIES

Fifteen of the seventeen participating companies are headquartered in Europe (none of them in Germany), the other two in Asia. Although several US companies expressed interest in participating, they did not fulfil the strict selection criteria. It is worth noting that the influence of these participating companies extends far beyond their respective headquarters in Europe and Asia, as some targets span different stages of the global supply chain. As a result, their efforts will have a significant impact on the natural landscapes and ecosystems in which they operate. Here is the full list: AB InBev, Alpro (part of Danone), Bel, Carrefour (whose Italian division is also implementing biodiversity regeneration projects in collaboration with 3Bee), Corbion, GSK, H&M Group, Hindustan Zinc Limited, Holcim Group, Kering, L'OCCITANE Group, LVMH, Nestlé, Neste Corporation, Suntory Holdings Limited, Tesco and UPM.

    THE EFFECTS

The initiative aims to better engage nature in broader decarbonisation efforts and contributes to the growing work to help companies measure and manage nature-based impacts. Through the use of advanced technologies provided by companies such as 3Bee, organisations can improve their understanding of biodiversity and implement effective strategies to protect it. Erin Billman, Managing Director of the Science Based Targets Network, confirms: "All pilot companies have a significant impact on nature." The results of this pilot project, which covers various industries, will be announced by the end of 2023 or early 2024. From 2024, an increasing number of companies will then have to submit their own biodiversity targets for review and validation.

    THE BIODIVERSITY CRISIS

Here are a few figures to make the biodiversity crisis tangible: 48 %: Proportion of species on Earth whose populations are declining 188: Number of countries that have joined the COP15 agreement aimed at halting and reversing the loss of nature 42,100: Number of species threatened with extinction 30x30: Target of the COP15 agreement to protect and conserve 30% of countries, freshwater bodies and oceans by 2030 55 %: Share of global GDP that is heavily dependent on the integrity of our natural ecosystems

3BEE: THE TECHNOLOGY PARTNER FOR ARTEEN DIVERSITY

In this crucial mission to preserve biodiversity, companies can count on technological and scientific partners like 3Bee to provide valuable support by creating customisable biodiversity havens. 3Bee offers a range of personalised products and services, including the planting of nectar forests, the adoption of beehives and the creation of educational trails. By integrating elements such as insect hotels and informative signs into their facilities, companies can educate visitors about the importance of biodiversity. With the help of 3Bee, companies can actively contribute to the restoration and protection of ecosystems and promote a harmonious coexistence between human activities and the natural world. Together, we are embarking on a journey towards a future where biodiversity thrives and ensures a sustainable and vibrant world for generations to come.
