What does Sustainability mean for MFLaw?

The response of Partner and CSR manager, Lawyer Livia Mannocchi. For MFLaw, sustainability and environmental responsibility have been a priority since the firm's foundation in 2001. Our name partners, in fact, thanks to a clear and far-sighted vision that distinguishes our entire reality, have immediately committed to orienting our daily work activities towards respect for the environment and all forms of life. For us, being sustainable is a fundamental value driver - shared by all 80 employees spread across our Italian offices - that guides all our choices, whether strategic, business or related to internal organisation and, at the same time, a criterion against which we measure our growth. For us, being sustainable means believing in the future and feeling this shared responsibility towards our planet, its resources and its inhabitants: a unique and interconnected ecosystem that must be protected to avoid its collapse.

What does Sustainability mean for MFLaw?

    A fairer future

When at MFLaw we speak of sustainability, we do not mean "only" the protection of the planet and its resources, but also the need to combat economic and gender inequalities in order to build a fairer, more inclusive and more prosperous future. Precisely to spread these values of ours inside and outside the firm, I strongly desired and then saw the birth of the MFLaw Communication, Marketing and CSR Department, which I have been directing for more than 3 years with a clear and constant objective: to develop strategies useful for MFLaw's growth along sustainable lines, helping to increase awareness and reputation in the marketplace, while increasingly reducing our ecological footprint.

What is the law firm's sustainable daily commitment?

As anticipated, people, communities and the environment play a central role in MFLaw's value proposition. Over the years we have implemented many internal and external initiatives. to protect the planet, promote inclusion and foster peace. Actions guided by the desire to make a concrete contribution to safeguarding tomorrow, but which until 2019, that is, until the birth of my department, although always oriented by precise objectives, were implemented in a disorganised manner. Today, I am very proud to have succeeded together with the MFLaw governance in bringing "MFLaw for future", our social sustainability programme, to life, which aims to embed each of our virtuous behaviours or social commitments in a well-codified CSR Strategy, oriented by the 17 SDGs and in line with international best practices, to which all our employees as well as our partners and stakeholders are actively committed.

What is the law firm's sustainable daily commitment?

    Concrete Actions

We have abolished the use of disposable plastics, introduced low environmental impact stationery materials, chosen to use environmentally sustainable CO2-absorbing paints in the renovation of some common spaces, introduced a print monitoring system that informs professionals and employees of their results every day with interactive dashboards, making them more aware of the impact of their daily activities. We are also committed to breaking down all kinds of inequality inside and outside the workplace and we support non-profit organisations working in foreign territories heavily damaged by conflict, poverty or lack of access to care and education.

A female team thanks to the polly houses

In our firm there is no "pay gap": MFLaw's is a cohesive team with a female component of over 70%, made up of professionals of different ages, from different regions and countries, with different backgrounds, ready to cooperate to achieve common goals. A team, which today, thanks to you at 3Bee, also counts 50 osmies: our little friends who, from their Polly placed in the garden of our headquarters in Rome, contribute every day to making the Planet flourish again.I am sure that this is only the beginning: our initiatives are constantly increasing, since each new step of economic growth, as a result of the excellent work of our teams, is always matched by the start of a new CSR activity.

How did you choose the 'Pollinate the Planet' project?

It was a bit of a completion of what has been said so far. Every year in MFLaw, new projects are implemented to spread the culture of sustainability inside and outside the company and to generate long-term value. With this goal in 2021, we strongly wanted to support 3Bee, as we are convinced of the enormous positive impact generated by such an innovative and technologically advanced partnership. Joining the CSR project 'Pollinate the Planet', in fact, has not only contributed to the protection of bees and biodiversity - in just one year the bees of our hive pollinated over 60,000 flowers - but also to support an agricultural micro-enterprise of excellence in the Sicilian territory. In my opinion, this is a splendid project that responds on several fronts to some of the main SDGs and generates truly sustainable value by following the drivers that, as I have described, outline the entire CSR Strategy of our firm.

What motivated you to renew your commitment for the second year?

We felt it more than necessary not only to renew our support for the beehive adopted in Sicily, but to further develop our collaboration through the purchase of a Biodiversity Oasis with the aim of planting 100 native trees with high nectariferous potential in the regions of Lombardy and Lazio. An action that we believe is necessary for the rebalancing of ecosystems: nectariferous plants, which are indispensable for the protection of bees and other pollinating insects, are becoming increasingly scarce, and it is therefore important to act as soon as possible to counter their disappearance. Furthermore, planting by local farmers ensures effective and real action to absorb carbon dioxide.
