Books to Read if You Love Bees

The World of Bees and Honey. The seasons, the problems, the life of the beehive and its products, by Cinzia Scaffidi, is a book about the fascinating world of bees and honey as told by the bees themselves. The book covers topics from zoology to the organisation of the bee super organism, the various differences between honey bees and solitary bees, the role of the beekeeper and production cycles. Not only that. There is also a useful chapter dedicated to honey pairings and its uses in the kitchen.

The authors of the book, Randolf Menzel and Matthias Eckoldt, recount the life and importance of bees with a more scientific slant, covering important topics such as the mory of bees, the role these insects play in the ecosystem and a host of curiosities surrounding the world of bees. They teach us, for example, that their tiny brains think, plan, count and perhaps dream. And also how they perceive scents and see colours, how their memory is formed, how they learn rules and patterns and even how they recognise faces.
