Adopt a 3Bee Beehive in Lombardy

With the 'Adopt a Beehive' project, you have the opportunity to make your own personal contribution to the preservation of bees by supporting virtuous Italian beekeepers, such as Borgo Il Mezzanino. These beekeepers use 3Bee systems to keep their hives monitored at all times.

    3Bee's approach to biodiversity protection

3Bee is the Nature Tech company that develops technologies for the protection of biodiversity. 3Bee Hive-Tech is 3Bee's first system for analysing the health and 'starvation' status of honeybees, environmental pests par excellence. Over time, we have developed other technologies to study and monitor all the pollinating insects and created more than 200 Oases of Biodiversity with thousands of nectariferous plants to provide them with nourishment. Thus, we want to create a virtuous circle: our beekeepers are transformed by necessity into Oasis growers and promoters of environmental biodiversity. We do not encourage massive production and intensive breeding, which have a negative impact on biodiversity and pollinators. We do, however, recognise the value of honey as a valuable symbol of the biodiversity of an environment and a tool for disseminating the commitment and protection of an area, to be consumed sparingly and with respect for the life cycle of these insects.

    Why support beekeepers

By monitoring main biological parameters such as weight, temperature, humidity and sound intensity on a daily basis, it is possible to obtain a complete picture of the hive, its production and its state of health. In this way, the beekeeper can intervene in a targeted, precise and timely manner to resolve any problems and anomalies. This means that the bees are disturbed as little as possible and timely action can be taken to resolve problematic situations. Better apiary management has a positive impact on the bees, their health and also on the beekeeper's business.

    Adopt a 3Bee hive

By adopting a 3Bee hive, you can support the daily activities of these beekeepers and their bees. You too can monitor the progress of the hive every day, following its growth and development. At the end of the beekeeping season, you will receive the honey produced and chosen by you. You will thus be able to enjoy the fruit of the bees' hard work, tasting a genuine, quality honey, a clear expression of the territory in which it is produced. You can choose your beekeeping in many ways: you can support the bees that are close to you, or those from other regions, so that you can taste the incredible variety of our peninsula's production. To help you choose, we would like to introduce you to all the beekeepers participating in our project! Today we are in Lombardy, in a truly dream location!

Borgo Il Mezzanino, a special place for beekeeping

It is precisely with Giacomo Almici, Lorenzo's brother and the family beekeeper, that we spoke to find out more about how his passion for bees and beekeeping came about and how their apiary is managed. Giacomo discovered the world of bees about five years ago, thanks to his girlfriend's father who already had his own hives. From a simple initial curiosity, something more developed, to the point where Giacomo decided to make beekeeping his profession. About three years ago he was joined by Luca P. and this year Luca R., both friends and partners of Giacomo.

    An ethical idea of beekeeping

When Giacomo tells us about his bees it is immediately clear that for him they represent something more, they are not just a job nor just animals to be bred to produce honey. Giacomo tells us that his mentor, Marco, told him that bees must be understood, there is no other way. It took Giacomo a while to get into gear, but this led him to really understand how he could help his bees and created an unbreakable bond with them. This is precisely the passion that keeps him going, despite the effort and time required. What is most fascinating about bees are the inner dynamics of the hive and Giacomo's dream is to be able to bring as many people as possible closer to this incredible world. Among the many initiatives, we can mention the Bee Experiences, created to let guests of Borgo Il Mezzanino experience a day among the bees, just as if they were beekeepers themselves.

    The honey produced

The beekeepers' commitment is therefore to the wellbeing of their bees. This is why theirs can be described as an ethical honey, 100% respectful of bees and their delicate ecosystem. With this in mind, they are also committed to converting their entire production to organic, seen as the most effective and responsible choice. Currently at Borgo Il Mezzanino they produce acacia, chestnut and some spring wildflower honey, a classic hillside production. The main apiaries are installed near the estate in Salò and in Valle Sabbia. They are currently looking to expand their production to other hive products.

3Bee devices for better bee management

Another of the decisions taken by the Borgo Il Mezzanino beekeepers is to rely on 3Bee devices for better management of their apiaries. Thanks to technological innovation, in fact, it is possible to know more about the needs of the bees, even more scrupulously in order to be able to take better care of them. Through the daily monitoring of the bees' biological data it is easier to understand their needs and, consequently, more timely interventions are ensured.
