Water crisis: Water shortage

Water, like the sun, is an essential and necessary resource for human life. We are depleting this resource at an unprecedented rate! Water is beginning to disappear. Bees and plants have been telling us this for several years.

Where is water found in nature?

Our planet is covered in water, and not only in oceans, seas, rivers and lakes. The air, glaciers and the earth itself are the largest water reserves! About 1.332 billion cubic kilometres, covering 72% of the planet's surface. - 96% of the water is sea water, salty and not directly drinkable. - 2% is stored in glaciers and our beloved polar ice caps. - 1% is in the ground we walk on and where we dump chemicals and waste. The rest? Lakes and our atmosphere. In the water cycle, water moves from one pool to another, through evaporation/transpiration (our plants) and subsequent condensation. In addition, water flows back and forth in underground, surface and oceanic rivers.

Our source of life: drinking water

Every day, without knowing it, we consume 3496 litres of water hidden in our food: plant and animal. We need drinking water not only for our direct daily consumption, but especially for the food we eat. Plants need water to grow. Agriculture needs water to produce fruit and vegetables. Livestock farms need water to feed us. These sectors "steal" 70% of our drinking water. The demand for water for agriculture will increase by 20% over the next 20 years. We need food and clean fresh water to produce it.
