A fascinating relationship
An extraordinary discovery that some thought was a joke, as it was published by de Oliveira-Nogueira on Twitter on 1 April.
The relationship between the giant frogs and the structure of the flowers themselves is also very interesting. Apparently, the frogs are too heavy for small flowers, which they seem to destroy. On large flowers, on the other hand, which can support their size, they invade and feed on the nectar, regardless of the pollen or the possible destruction of the petals. However, it seems that this behaviour is intentional: destroying smaller flowers causes the plant to produce more pollen and nectar in already large and mature flowers, which can provide a better food source for the frogs.
