    Sobi's objective

The objective of Sobi in this social responsibility initiative was to really help the beekeeping activities of the 'heroes of biodiversity', who recognise in the advanced 3Bee technology an important resource for their work. Together, therefore, we have been working on a project to promote innovative beekeeping to cope with the relentless consequences of climate change and pesticide abuse on animals and the environment.

    Participating beekeepers

Let's get to know better these realities that have volunteered to participate in the project, taking advantage of the hive-tech installation sponsored by Sobi. 1) Apicoltura Colle Salera: located in Abruzzo within the Majella National Park, this is a family-run business that produces high-quality monofloral honeys, which have won several awards in sector competitions in Italy and abroad. The honeys are produced using the organic method and obtained through nomadic beekeeping: at each flowering, the hives are transported to selected areas of the Abruzzo Apennines and Italian Nature Reserves to allow the bees to suck only pure, uncontaminated nectar. At the same time, another permanent location is in Emilia Romagna in the province of Bologna. In this area, it is possible to take advantage of the early blossoming of plum, apricot and cherry orchards.

    Apiculture Andrea Romano

    2) Apicoltura Andrea Romano: beekeeping is located in western Liguria in the province of Imperia and its biodiversity hero is a forestry agronomist and naturalist, engaged in defence research projects against the wasp velutina, a menace that affects beekeeping in the area, which is descending and expanding from the south of France. From the satellite map we recognise some characteristics of the area: The gulf is formed by Mediterranean scrub, in the hillsides. In the rural area there are vegetable gardens and greenhouses, while in the residential area there is everything, especially citrus fruits Pythosphorus viburnum, but also avocados.

    Apiculture Igor Petracco

    3) Apicoltura Igor Petracco: Igor works with organic methods and produces honey and pollen. It is located in the Valsesia area, in the Biella foothills of the Alps. Precisely because he moves in the mountains, he is forced to move the beehives by hand, i.e., during the harvest period he has to consider numerous journeys for inspections by pick-up truck, which is highly polluting. Thanks to our technology, he reduces emissions, the transport costs that inevitably affect his work, and the stress associated with travelling predominantly at night. In particular, thanks to Sobi's hive-tech, Igor tells us that he is now able to visualise in which apiaries the bees are gathering the most, and move more hives to those apiaries accordingly, thereby increasing yields and conversely limiting the amount of artificial feed needed.
