    International Education Day: history

The International Education Day, proclaimed by the United Nations in 2018 and celebrated for the first time on 24 January 2019, recognises education as a basic human right and a vital pillar for global social and economic progress. This day provides an opportunity to reflect on achievements and persistent challenges in access to quality education. It promotes awareness of the need for inclusive and equitable education that is capable of adapting to the rapid changes in our world, while maintaining the goal of building a more just and sustainable society.

Education as a Sustainable Development Goal

Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 (SDG 4) aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all by promoting lifelong learning opportunities. This goal emphasises the role of education in reducing poverty, improving health, promoting gender equality and stimulating innovation. It also emphasises the need for accessible educational infrastructure, teacher training programmes and the creation of safe and inclusive learning environments. In this context, International Education Day becomes a crucial time to assess the progress made and to stimulate a global dialogue on how to overcome barriers to education.

    Challenges and innovations in education

Despite progress in recent years, many barriers still hinder universal access to education. From socio-economic disparities to lack of educational resources and inadequate infrastructure, the struggle for quality education continues. However, technological innovation and new pedagogical approaches are opening avenues to overcome these challenges, making learning more accessible and inclusive. International Education Day is a time to explore these innovations and to reflect on how they can be used to overcome current and future challenges.

    The future of education

The future of education promises to be full of potential and challenges. Topics such as digital education, competence-based learning and environmental education are becoming increasingly relevant. These approaches primarily prepare students to deal with a rapidly changing reality, but also promote critical thinking and greater social and environmental awareness. International Education Day therefore invites reflection on how educational systems can continue to evolve and adapt, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that values diversity, innovation and inclusiveness.

    3Bee's commitment to education

3Bee is committed to education by providing training programmes to companies, organisations, professionals and schools. For the latter, it created the free sustainability programme '3Bee: at school for biodiversity', dedicated to primary schools. The aim is to make young students aware of the important topics of biodiversity protection, pollinating insects and their connection to ecosystems. The programme comprises 9 modules and focuses on the combination of digital and science subjects, with parallel practical workshops and activities to be carried out at home. To date, there are over 500 participating schools. Organisations and companies can also join the programme, choosing to support one or more classes in this educational journey focused on biodiversity. A direct and meaningful way to contribute constructively to the community, supporting an educational curriculum that prepares young people for a more demanding future in terms of sustainability.
