How to become a Climate Unicorn, model for companies

An essential prerequisite for positioning oneself in any new market is to be part of a green business or to build one from scratch. Those who have not yet made this fundamental transition must now adapt to this new and preponderant trend in what customers and stakeholders want to achieve.

    Corporate Social Responsibility before 2011

2011 can be considered an important year for corporate social responsibility. It was at that time that everyone's sustainability concerns began to be reported in the non-financial, or sustainability, report. This document reported the CSR actions taken by the business up to that point, as well as those it would implement in the next 3, 5 and 20 years after publication. At the time, sustainability was a niche for a few companies that had already grasped the competitive advantage of communicating their CSR actions and activating them, even partially. Real actions towards that goal were not yet tangible. With the drafting of non-financial reports, sustainability came out of the sphere of charity for the first time, thus recognising the importance of concrete action and the need to communicate and tell about it outside the company.

    2015 and the Paris Agreement

The importance that sustainability has begun to play over the years could be seen in concrete terms with the Paris Climate Agreement, which was signed in 2015 and first stipulated that global warming could not increase by more than 2°C above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century. This increased focus has also been reflected in the actions of companies. Those that have drawn up and published their own sustainability report, giving concrete form to their commitment to the common goal, have tripled to 72% of companies worldwide.

The real turning point of the last five years

Only in the last five years, however, has a real change been noticeable in the way actions taken in favour of environmental sustainability were considered. This, in fact, has increasingly become a universally recognised critical value. In recent years, organisations and companies have embraced and adopted ESG guides and criteria. ESG stands for Environment, Social and Governance and are nothing other than the environmental, social and governance criteria that serve as a yardstick for the sustainability of companies and, consequently, investments. Respect for ESGs leads to the generation of a virtuous ecosystem where profit is no longer in opposition to sustainability, but they can be combined and mutually support each other. Since 2020, more and more companies have decided to adopt a scientific approach to the design and implementation of sustainable impact actions and projects.

The start-up model for tackling climate change

What is the best way a company should approach this challenge for change? How can it tackle an urgent, constantly changing and rapidly accelerating problem? In our view, the key is in adopting a different approach, the start-up model of problem solving. If companies could make it their own, they would not only be more effective in their actions, but also more competitive. In fact, all successful start-ups have a common, recurring pattern and a highest common denominator: a constant focus on why they exist, their foundation and their ultimate purpose.

    Lo startup problem solving model

What large companies can put into practice to prioritise their sustainable goals is nothing more than a few simple, yet incisive, actions: identify their 'pole star', i.e. their own personal, bold vision of sustainability that distinguishes them from all others invest time and resources in cultivating corporate talent and culture streamline and simplify their operating model, with leaders who can model and exemplify a research and continuous experimentation mentality adopt an agile approach to venture capital, aware that the commercialisation of products and services will not happen overnight

3Bee the sustainability enabling start-up partner

3Bee is a partner that embodies scientificity, measurability and flexibility. Born as a start-up, it has perfectly mastered the start-up problem solving model. Our field of action in the field of environmental sustainability focuses on bees, the queens of biodiversity. The importance of bees is receiving increasing attention, as are the dangers they face on a daily basis. By thoroughly analysing the causes of the problems that afflict bees, it has been possible to implement a strategy to deal with them, leading to a reduction in annual mortality of up to 30 per cent. This translates into a positive effect on biodiversity and sustainability. Punctual key results, a goal-oriented approach, flexibility to every need and contingency and versatile communication make 3Bee the ideal partner for your sustainability project.
