    THE SCIENCE-BASED PILOT PROJECT

Major companies are actively participating in a pilot project of the Science-Based Target Network (a global coalition of environmental NGOs and mission-driven organisations). While the pilot project's initial targets focus primarily on freshwater bodies and forests, as well as land and agriculture (FLAG), future targets encompassing vital resources such as our oceans are expected to emerge. This target-setting exercise allows companies toin-depth assess, quantify and disclose the environmental impact of their activities, while taking proactive measures to mitigate it.

    The companies

Fifteen of the seventeen participating companies are headquarteredin Europe, the other two in Asia. Although several US companies expressed interest in the programme, their state of readiness and impact on nature did not meet the rigorous selection criteria. It should be noted that the reach of these participating companies extends well beyond their respective headquarters in Europe and Asia, as some targets encompass multiple stages of the global supply chain. As a result, their efforts are likely to have a substantial impact on landscapes and natural ecosystems where they operate. Here's the list: AB InBev, Alpro (part of Danone), Bel, Carrefour (whose Italian division is also working with 3Bee on biodiversity regeneration projects), Corbion, GSK, H&M Group, Hindustan Zinc Limited, Holcim Group, Kering, L'OCCITANE Group, LVMH, Nestlé, Neste Corporation

    The impact

This initiative aims to better integrate nature into overall decarbonisation efforts and adds to the growing body of work aimed at helping businesses measure and manage nature-related impacts. By leveraging advanced technologies provided by companies like 3Bee, businesses can improve their understanding of biodiversity and implement effective strategies to protect it. Erin Billman, executive director of the Science Based Targets Network, says that "all the pilot companies are having a significant impact on nature". The results of this pilot project, which encompasses a range of industries, will be unveiled in late 2023 or early 2024. In addition, from 2024, a growing number of companies will have the opportunity to submit their own biodiversity targets for review and validation.

    The figures:Highlighting the biodiversity crisis

48%: Percentage of the planet's species whose population is declining 188: The number of countries committed to the COP15 agreement, aimed at halting and reversing the loss of nature. 42,100: The number of species on the brink of extinction. 30x30: target set by the COP15 agreement to protect and preserve 30% of land, freshwater and oceans by 2030 55%: Percentage of global GDP significantly dependent on the integrity of our natural ecosystems. These figures bear witness to the biodiversity crisis.

3Bee: the technological partner for biodiversity

In this crucial mission to preserve biodiversity, businesses can count on technological and scientific partners such as 3Bee to provide invaluable support through the creation of customisable biodiversity oases. 3Bee offers a range of customised products and services, including planting nectar-rich trees and forests, sponsoring beehives remotely or on-site, and creating biodiversity education trails. By incorporating features such as insect hotels and information panels into their facilities or forests, businesses can raise visitors' awareness of the importance of biodiversity. With the help of 3Bee, businesses can proactively contribute to the restoration and conservation of ecosystems, promoting harmonious coexistence between human activities and the natural world.
