    Grants for beekeeping in Abruzzo

Contributions for beekeeping in Abruzzo are open until the end of November. Abruzzo beekeepers will therefore be able to submit their applications for funding to support their beekeeping activities. The call for contributions covers various actions, some aimed at beekeepers, others at associations, organisations and research institutes. In detail, the measures that interest beekeepers are: Equipment for running the apiary, processing, packaging and preserving beekeeping products (action a6) Miscellaneous equipment, e.g. purchase of net-bottomed hives or modification of existing hives, purchase of specific equipment to combat beehive aggressors and diseases (action b3) Purchase of beehives (action c2.1) and of machines, equipment and various materials specific to nomadism (action c2.2) Purchase of swarms, nuclei, bee packages and queen bees (action e1)

Technical assistance to beekeepers and organisations

Measure A includes technical assistance to beekeepers and beekeepers' organisations. Action a6, concerning the purchase of equipment for apiary management and the processing, packaging and preservation of beekeeping products, is aimed at beekeepers and beekeeping entrepreneurs with more than 10 hives regularly reported in the BDA, residence in Abruzzo and SIAN company file. Depending on the number of beehives reported, there are different maximum expenditure thresholds, ranging from € 1,500 to € 10,000. The contribution covers 50% of the eligible expenditure.

    Fighting hive aggressors and diseases

As part of the fight against beehive aggressors and diseases, in particular varroasis (Measure B), the purchase of net-bottomed hives and specific materials and equipment is included (Action b3). 70% of the available funding is allocated to resident beekeepers for the purchase of net-bottomed hives. The remaining 30% goes to resident and nomadic beekeepers for the purchase of specific equipment. Again, beekeepers must have a minimum of 10 hives duly reported to the BDA, be resident in Abruzzo and have a SIAN holding file. Funding covers 60 per cent of the expenses for this action. Depending on the number of hives reported to the BDA, there are specific expenditure limits for each individual beneficiary.

    Rationalisation of transhumance

Measure C deals in general with the rationalisation of transhumance. Nomadism is seen as an important resource for the beekeeping sector and the region aims at its enhancement for a better exploitation of nectar resources and for a greater and more varied production of honey. This measure includes the purchase of hives for nomadism, as well as various types of equipment. The beneficiaries of action c2.2 are all nomadic beekeepers, individually or in association, in possession at the date of sending the application of at least 10 beehives regularly reported to the BDA, must be resident in Abruzzo and have a company file on the SIAN. Depending on the number of beehives reported, there are different thresholds for maximum eligible expenditure, ranging from €5,000 to €25,000. The contribution covers 50% of the total expenditure.

    Purchase of hive management tools

Included in the expenses for the rationalisation of transhumance are our remote monitoring systems. Our scales and anti-theft devices allow better and more rational management of beekeeping activity, especially in the case of nomadism. Having your bees under control at all times, you can plan targeted visits and interventions, avoiding empty trips and saving time. Monitoring devices will also provide you with valuable information on production and stock consumption, as well as the state of the colony. On your profile you can organise your work, enter notes, schedule tasks and even set warning thresholds. With anti-theft devices you can then protect your crates and monitor them in case of theft. As soon as the system detects abnormal movement or vibration, specific alarms are sent to you via SMS and email. By entering the app, you can directly track your movements around the house.

Supporting the repopulation of the Union's bee population

Measure E includes support for restocking the Union's bee population. Under this measure, financing is provided for the purchase of swarms and families of bees and queen bees of the Ligustica breed, produced in Italy. The contribution covers 60% of eligible expenditure. Eligible beekeepers must possess at least 10 hives regularly reported to the BDA, be resident in Abruzzo and have a SIAN holding file. The expenditure thresholds are differentiated on the basis of the number of beehives reported.

Documents to be included in the application

The submission of at least 3 comparable quotations for the same expenditure is required (except for action e1). If this is not possible, a statement justifying the uniqueness of the estimate may be submitted. The applicant must also attach a duly substantiated comparison table of the estimates. If you do not have a VAT number, you must include the appropriate declaration stating that you are exempt. For individual actions, it is also possible to submit self-certifications to increase one's score in the ranking list.

    Application procedure and deadlines

Aid applications can be downloaded online at www.sian.it under Utilities>Download. If it is not possible to proceed in this way, the forms can also be obtained from the Agricultural Department of the Agricultural Assistance Centres or from the Beekeepers' Organisations. The farm dossier activated at the relevant CAA must always be attached to the application. Funding applications must be addressed to AGEA PAYING AGENCIES and sent no later than 30 November 2020 to Regione Abruzzo - Dipartimento Agricoltura - Ufficio Sostegno zootecnia e regimi di qualità. Applications must be sent with all the necessary documentation and a front/back copy of a valid identity document of the applicant by PEC to dpd019@pec.regione.abruzzo.it by 30 November 2020.
