3Bee Biodiversity Summit

On Friday 19 May, the 3Bee Biodiversity Summit took place in Milan: the annual summit was a place for discussion and collaboration, bringing together the main actors of the national economy engaged in the protection and protection of biodiversity. The Summit offered a unique opportunity to explore the issue from a scientific perspective, but also to discover the connections between biodiversity and Italian businesses, as well as to promote the importance of education and awareness-raising on the issue of biodiversity. At the conclusion of the event, the three pillars of the 2023 approach to biodiversity protection in business and the international economy were defined: monitoring, regeneration and education.

The panels of discussion at the 3Bee Biodiversity Summit involved leading experts in the fields of research, enterprise and communication. The first panel, dedicated to research partners, featured Anna Camilla Moonen of the Università Sant'Anna di Pisa, John Friedman of Ag Funder - live from Singapore - and Paolo Vineis, Scientific Director of the Regenerative Society Foundation. The second panel focused on the case studies of companies from different sectors: Genagricola, Findus, DHL and Concessioni Autostradali Venete (CAV), who told about their approach to biodiversity protection. The third and final panel, with The Fork and Legolize, focused instead on the importance of raising awareness of a crucial issue such as biodiversity. The speakers made valuable contributions, sharing experiences and perspectives to open a constructive debate on biodiversity.

The three pillars in the approach to biodiversity protection that emerged from the 3Bee Biodiversity Summit are monitoring, regeneration and education. Thanks to the research partners, we have deepened the importance of biodiversity monitoring, which is useful in understanding which improvement measures to make. These take the form of regeneration projects, which it is important to communicate in order to educate and raise awareness. 3Bee is actively engaged in each of these areas to protect biodiversity: monitoring, through the innovative remote sensing technology that allows the health of bees and pollinators to be monitored; regeneration, through the Oases of Biodiversity: circumscribed areas of fast and rapid implementation, including grazing for pollinators with scalar blooms, refuges for pollinators and sustenance for bee colonies; education, with activities that promote active participation in biodiversity protection.

At the conclusion of the event, our CEO Niccolò Calandri outlined the ambitious goals of 3Bee's Biodiversity Oases: the mapping and monitoring of 30 million hectares - to date we have mapped 2 million. The development of a network of 100,000 sensors, with new analysis and remote sensing techniques such as DNA analysis of pollen and soils. The creation of 10,000 Oases of Biodiversity, with currently 123 oases already implemented, comprising 1.5 million trees and shrubs, reducing 10 million tonnes of CO2 and caring for 1 billion pollinators that will preserve 10,000 hectares of land. Reach 100% of people in Italy through dissemination events, city tours, involvement in schools and joint communication projects. These objectives highlight 3Bee's commitment to promoting biodiversity and engaging society for sustainable development.
