Earth Day: history
World Earth Day was established in 1970 in the United States as a day of mobilisation for the environment, to raise awareness of environmental issues and promote nature protection. Today, it is a world-wide competition involving institutions, non-governmental organisations, schools and companies from all over the world. However, the data on the state of the environment globally are alarming: according to the FAO, around 10 million hectares of forests are lost every year due to agriculture, livestock farming, illegal deforestation and logging. This phenomenon has serious consequences on biodiversity and the living conditions of many populations, and contributes to climate change. These data remind us of the urgency of the need to adopt sustainable practices to preserve the environment. In this context, companies can make a difference by adopting sustainable practices and becoming part of the solution.
